A crisis of confidence hits everybody sooner or later. In the middle of that despair, we search for external validation, statistics that prove our skills, and results that silence our doubts. But Paul sets a rather different example for us in responding to the Corinthians’ crisis of confidence about him. Even though his confidence in Christ toward God isn’t tangible or objective, he counts it for all it’s worth! So should you.

When Paul talks about Christ leading us in triumphal procession, he doesn’t mean that we’re winners and that Jesus throws us a ticker tape parade. He means that because Jesus won the victory, we follow behind and make much of Him. The pervasive idea that life and Christianity are about us will never lead us to biblical hope. The only way to true hope lies in always pointing attention to the True Conqueror Who leads us.
